A mobile drive is when an NZ Blood Service team visits a town and sets up a temporary blood collection site for donors to visit.
What will happen when I join?
If you sign up by completing a swab kit, we will process your swabs and use them to determine your tissue type.
Or if you sign up by donating blood, then we will ask for your signed consent to take an additional sample of blood for tissue-typing tests.
Your tissue type record will then be entered into a national database and compared with patients needing bone marrow transplants.
After that, we will only be in touch if you are identified as a potential match for someone who needs a transplant. Only one in 1,000 people on the NZ Bone Marrow Donor Registry are called upon to donate each year.
There is no NZBS donor centre or mobile drive near me, how do I join?

What if I've already been tissue-typed?
Please contact us if you are currently aged between 18 – 60 years of age and have been tissue-typed in the past either…
- when you became a platelet donor or
- in the search for a donor for a family member or
- if you joined an overseas Bone Marrow Registry but are now living in NZ
